Overview
The interview day typically begins at 12:30 p.m. Central Time and will last until approximately 3:15 p.m., however, interview day times will vary throughout the application cycle. You will be able to view the list of dates and specific time options when registering for your interview. The detailed agenda and Zoom link will be emailed to you from the Office of Admissions two business days prior to your registered interview date.
Welcome Session
To start your interview day, you will join the Zoom link approximately 15 minutes before the start of our welcome session while admissions staff check everyone in. During this time, you will be in the virtual waiting room until the welcome session begins, as noted on your agenda. As we begin, you will be brought into the main session for the welcome to review the agenda and complete group introductions.
Virtual Interviews
For the interview format, plan to complete two one-on-one, 20-minute interviews via Zoom. Admissions staff will place you into breakout rooms for the interviews.
The interview begins once you join your interviewer in your breakout room. Plan to quickly introduce yourself and allow your interviewer to do the same. Your interviewer will likely use most of the 20 minutes to ask you predetermined questions designed to assess different qualities about you as an applicant. Please be mindful of time as you speak with your interviewer and allow them time to transition between their questions.
When there are two minutes remaining, you will receive a notification that the interview time is close to wrapping up. At the end of 20 minutes, you will return to the main session with the other candidates until your next interview time. There will be a 10-minute break between interviews.
At the conclusion of your second interview, your video interviews are complete, and you will have a short break until the next item on your agenda.
Faculty Q&A Panel Session
This is a 30-minute session designed to give applicants the opportunity to engage directly with KansasCOM faculty members. Panelists will answer your questions about the curriculum, research opportunities, student support resources, among other topics, providing valuable insights into the medical school experience. This session allows applicants to gain a deeper understanding of KansasCOM’s academic environment and faculty expertise. By participating, applicants can learn firsthand how our faculty are dedicated to preparing students for success in medical school and beyond.
Closing Session
Before we end the interview day, you will meet with admissions staff and other candidates for our closing session. We will cover information related to admissions decisions, financial aid, matriculation items, important dates, and other necessary information. You will also receive a follow-up email and a survey for you to provide feedback.
Our goal is to address your questions by the end of the day, and ultimately to give you as much information about KansasCOM to help aid in your medical school choice. If, however, you think of additional questions after your interview day, please do not hesitate to reach out to the Office of Admissions. We will get back to you as quickly as possible with the information you need to keep moving forward in your admissions process.
