Program Overview
The osteopathic approach to medicine is humanistic, integrated, and innovative. KansasCOM trains and supports those who are called to this path with an osteopathic approach to medicine that considers all the individual requirements of the student and the profession.
Diverging from the traditional approach seen in many medical schools, our Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) program offers students unique exposure interactive learning environments. Through a comprehensive curriculum that includes standardized patient encounters, human-patient simulations, modern medical technology, interprofessional education activities, an ultrasound program, and clinical skills labs, our students gain practical and essential experience in identifying and addressing patient needs.
Additionally, our DO program provides students with a foundation to work within any sector of health care they desire, apart from direct patient care positions.
We’ve developed a curriculum that can empower a community of lifelong learners and problem-solvers, capable of addressing challenges that the medical field has yet to encounter. One way we do this is by placing an emphasis on collaborative, interactive, and case-based learning. We also emphasize hands-on clinical education in years three and four to provide students with meaningful opportunities to gain real-life experience with patients from our partnerships with local physicians, hospitals, and clinical systems.
Our osteopathic medicine program consists of four years of coursework and fieldwork, culminating in the acquisition of a degree. We place special emphasis on collaboration with patients to promote health and wellness, the identification and treatment of illnesses, and the treatment of each patient in the context of the wide variety of factors that influence health.
Technology plays a crucial role in the medical field. To prepare students for the ever-evolving landscape of medicine, our program utilizes state-of-the-art technologies to enhance clinical research and help students develop expertise using modern medical devices. Our Simulation Center and training modules are key to providing the knowledge and hands-on experiences required to use emerging medical technologies successfully.
Technology used in our curriculum include:
