Timeline Overview
Thank you for considering KansasCOM. We understand that applying to a college of osteopathic medicine can be a long, complex process and therefore advise applicants to begin the process one year in advance of their planned matriculation. Please use our timeline below for assistance as you begin your application process.
Application Timeline
- Complete the ACCOMAS application.
- All prospective students must first apply with the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine Application Services (AACOMAS). AACOMAS offers a convenient experience for those interested in applying to schools of osteopathic medicine. Users can select all their desired programs, then submit one application along with all general required materials. AACOMAS then verifies the application for accuracy and sends it with the appropriate materials to the user’s chosen schools of osteopathic medicine.
- KansasCOM applicants are encouraged to begin the application process a year prior to their anticipated matriculation. Students are admitted on a rolling basis.
- Complete the secondary application.
Upon review of your AACOMAS application, KansasCOM will invite qualified applicants to complete our secondary application online. Secondary application requirements include:- Two letters of recommendation (If you submitted through AACOMAS, we will download letters to your KansasCOM file.)
- One letter from a pre-med adviser or committee; may substitute with a letter from a science faculty member
- One letter from a physician (DO or MD)
- Additional letters may be submitted on your behalf in addition to the required letters.
- Letters must be dated within two years of anticipated matriculation year (i.e., if starting classes in fall 2025, your letters of recommendation must be dated no earlier than January 2023).
- Two letters of recommendation (If you submitted through AACOMAS, we will download letters to your KansasCOM file.)
- Complete your interview with KansasCOM.
We conduct interviews to gain the most comprehensive understanding of who you are. Typically, interviews are conducted in-person and on campus. However, for the continued health and safety of you and our KHSU faculty and staff, KansasCOM will be conducting virtual interviews for the current application cycle. Qualified applicants will receive an invitation to register for an upcoming interview day. Invitations and all other email communication will be sent to the email provided in your AACOMAS application. The invitation will include specific instructions about how to register and attend a virtual interview day. Interviews will begin in the fall and will conclude in April. Virtual interview days will consist of one-on-one interviews, faculty panel, and general information sessions. Applicants will be notified of an admissions decision via email within four to six weeks of their virtual interview.
Further Information
Admission to KansasCOM are competitive. Applicants are required to have obtained a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, submit Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) scores no more than three years old, and have completed prerequisite coursework in biochemistry, biology, chemistry, physics, and English literature or composition. Additionally, health care experience, technical proficiency standards, and two letters of recommendation are required.
