Biography

Dr. Brandau comes to KHSC with almost 40 years of experience in biomedical research, clinical practice and medical education. He then completed a PGY-1 year in pediatrics at Blank Hospital for Children and then joined the Public Health Service. He was commissioned in the National Health Service Corps and served 2 years in Plainville, Texas where he served as the town's pediatrician. At the completion of his time and following a year as a pathology resident at Oregon Health Sciences University, Dr. Brandau entered the University of Wyoming where he obtained a Ph.D. degree in biochemistry. His dissertation focused on the physiochemical mechanism for the cold precipitation of type II cryoimmunoglobulins.

After completing his PhD degree, Dr. Brandau joined the biochemistry faculty at the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine as an Assistant Professor of Biochemistry. He taught in the biochemistry course sequence and carried out research on protein interactions. After another year of residency in Nuclear Medicine at the University of Iowa, Dr. Brandau was asked to return to Kirksville to direct the clinical education program as the Assistant Dean of Clinical Education. Over the next several years, he was promoted to Vice Dean for Academic Affairs overseeing the academic programs of the COM before moving on to the University of Health Sciences in Kansas City (UHS), Missouri. At KansasCOM Dr. Brandau will be teaching in the first year Clinical presentations and Population health courses.
