Dr. Sirajuddin joined Kansas COM in early 2024. Although this is her first formal experience in academia, she has always been passionate about education. She has welcomed the opportunity to teach medical students and residents in her Allergy clinic and was faculty at University of Kansas Wichita Pediatrics Department. During that time, she participated in didactic sessions for pediatric residents.
She completed her training in St. Louis and moved to Wichita in 2010. During her employment at KU - Wichita Pediatrics Department, she worked closely with pediatricians and other faculty members in the subspecialty clinic. She noted the lack of access to specialty care in pediatrics, especially allergy and asthma care, and wanted to make a change. She collaborated with the Pediatric Pulmonologist and local allergists and pediatricians to formulate a document that was easy to use in diagnosing and treating asthma. This would serve as a resource for primary care providers in rural Kansas to have a readily available resource in helping manage asthma patients. She was also involved in the successful application for a grant to obtain a spirometry machine for the Pediatric clinic at KU.
Until recently, she worked at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado and enjoyed working in a community hospital setting. She was able to work with many providers and patients from rural Kansas and truly cherished those relationships. Her passion for education and rural access to specialty care continued there. She was involved in obtaining a grant to allow a team from Susan B. Allen, including herself, to educate school nurses in managing students with asthma. The team was also able to provide resources such as spacers for use with inhalers at school and held a summer camp.
Having heard about Kansas COM since its start, she is excited about joining as clinical faculty. She is also involved in teaching some sessions at the basic medical science level. The focus of the school in providing medical care in rural Kansas aligns well with her personal passions and goal
