Biography

Dr. Hemric received his bachelor's degree in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He completed his doctoral training at East Carolina School of Medicine where he helped characterize the smooth and nonmuscle protein, caldesmon. He continued his contractile protein research as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Vermont School of Medicine. Dr. Hemric's teaching career began at Oklahoma Baptist University (OBU), where he created a Biochemistry major and co-authored the first academic pages on the OBU website. In addition, he enjoyed a research collaboration at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. Dr. Hemric spent 20 successful years at Liberty University, where he was a founding faculty of Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine. At Kansas College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Hemric serves as the Chair of the Department of Biomedical Sciences where he is committed to assisting faculty in professional development, curricular design and instructional excellence with the goal of student success. Professionally, he enjoys memberships in several associations and societies and is a National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME) National Faculty Member. As a medical biochemistry educator, Dr. Hemric is passionate about students' understanding of biochemistry, especially metabolism and its application to nutrition.
