Paul Misasi has been a paramedic for over 21 years - having spent eight years in the field on an ambulance and 12 years in a management and progressively higher administrative roles; most recently serving as Deputy Director of Sedgwick County EMS (Kansas), which is the largest and busiest ambulance service in the state of Kansas.
Paul is a human factors psychologist, specializing in human error, macrocognition, expertise, decision making, and cognitive systems engineering. He holds two graduate degrees: 1) Master of Science in Emergency Health Services from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and 2) Master of Art in Psychology from Wichita State University. He also earned his undergraduate degree in Health Service Organization & Policy from Wichita State University.
He is the program director of Health Systems Science, teaching a range of topics that include epistemology, biostatistics & epidemiology, research methods & critical appraisal of scientific literature, patient safety, clinical informatics, health care system models, ethics, social determinants of health, quality management, basic life support, and advanced cardiovascular life support.
